Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Mississippi invites applications to fill one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2024. The applicant will be expected to teach two courses per semester and conduct a vigorous research program with the potential to attract external funding. In addition, the applicant selected should have the ability at the time of hire to direct doctoral research.  We encourage applications from candidates in areas compatible with the current research interests of the department, including those with an applied or computational focus.

The University of Mississippi is an R1 research institution located in Oxford, about one hour south of Memphis. USA Today named Oxford the “Thriving New South Arts Mecca” and “one of the top six college towns in the nation”. The Mathematics Department consists of seventeen tenure/tenure-track professors, two instructional and three visiting professors, twelve instructors, and about thirty graduate students. It was one of two departments to receive the AMS Diversity award “Department that Makes a Difference” in 2009 and continues to embrace a meaningful and holistic commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, earned no later than time of appointment.
